MEDITERRAID, the Journey of the "Flag of Human Rights"

The "journey of the Flag of Human Rights" will start from the UNICRI Office in Rome and will finish at the UNRIC Office in Brussels, with the official delivery of the Flag containing the signatures of all the personalities having taken part during the journey.

As part of events leading to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations, Mediterraid has developed and planned a project in which the main feature is a flag representing the text from the Declaration, which will travel across the twenty-one countries of Western Europe.

In each of these countries, Mediterraid and UNRIC will organize a meeting with an eminent personality (for example a Nobel Prize winner), who has distinguished him/herself in an area of one of the thirty articles of the Declaration. Each of these personalities will be asked to sign the Flag of Human Rights, as well as giving their personal opinion on the present human rights situation.

Another important feature is a video documentary which will describe and analyze the application of the five fundamental Rights stated by the Declaration throughout the world: 1) Civil Rights 2) Political Rights 3) Economic Rights 4) Social Rights 5) Cultural Rights. Mediterraid plans to have this documentary ready in time for it to be presented during events organized on the occasion of the anniversary (December 10th 2008).
